On October 2024, I had the opportunity to attend the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-GA) Chapter meeting held at the University of Georgia School of Social Work-Gwinnett Campus. The presenters were Stacey D. Hardy-Chandler, Ph.D., J.D., LCSW, PGDip, ASWB CEO, and Dionne Brown-Bushrod, LCSW, ASWB Director of Education Programs. I was truly inspired to meet with these two powerful women who “provide support and services to the social work regulatory community to advance safe, competent, and ethical practices to strengthen public protection” for our social work profession! The event was well attended, and I had the opportunity to meet and greet my colleagues and learn about the fantastic things they are doing in their respective communities.
As social workers, we get poked fun at for “doing too much,” but we also know that the standard for our profession encompasses a vast and holistic approach to the well-being of the people we serve.
Not only do we assess and diagnose, but we also assist individuals, families, and communities in addressing a wide range of challenges and improving well-being by providing counseling, advocacy, and resource referrals.
We work to empower people, promote social justice, and create positive change in social systems.
Social workers are truly Agents of Change (Cels, 1970)!

Because the world faces increasing challenges, the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) has been finding creative ways to recruit, train, and retain our forces, including making accommodations where needed. Dr. Chandler, CEO, and Mrs. Bushrod, Director, presented all the new and exciting programs to be launched in March 2025.For more information on these changes, visit aswb.org.
