Passing the Baton: From Wellness Day South Cobb to Live Well in Austell

On September 20, 2014, Social Concepts and Development Services (SCADS) launched Wellness Day South Cobb. The event aimed to introduce the South Cobb community to the wellness movement, explaining its purpose and importance. SCADS formed a committee called Joining Hands in Wellness with several non-profit organizations to ensure its success.

The collaboration in the wellness movement aimed to promote and support all aspects of wellness using SAMHSA’s 8 Dimensions of Wellness, with mental wellness as a key component. The goals included reducing negative attitudes, raising awareness about the importance of overall wellness, supporting individuals in the community who need services, and building connections throughout Austell and the South Cobb community.

The outdoor event featured wellness vendors, chiropractors, dentists, health clinics, non-profit organizations, therapists, service providers, local businesses, county agencies, and entertainment. The signature event was a 5k race. Interactive activities engaged people of all ages, and educational information was provided to inform families about the various resources available in the community. This information was successfully shared over a four-year period, benefiting residents in the City of Austell and the South Cobb area.

I am excited to announce that, in 2025, Wellness Day South Cobb will be revitalized with a renewed vision. SCADS is collaborating with the Austell Business Association to continue promoting wellness while fostering a more vibrant atmosphere for community unity. We are enthusiastic about this partnership as we embark on our journey under the theme Live Well Austell. More details forthcoming!
